Lawrence Schoen visits the Warriors' Den

On December 27th, 2011, during my Internet radio show, the Warriors' Den, on TrekRadio.net, I was honored and privileged to be joined by Lawrence M. Schoen, Ph.D., founder and director of the Klingon Language Institute, HUGO-award nominated author, and Chief Editor of Paper Golem small press publishing.

Lawrence took time out of his busy schedule during the holiday season to join me for an on-air interview to discuss tlhIngan Hol, the Klingon language, the history and progress of Klingon Language Institute, and his personal projects including his critically acclaimed writing.

Originally scheduled for only an hour, Lawrence graciously extended that time to nearly 2 hours, discussing his academic background and sharing stories of his experiences with linguistics and the KLI, how his passion for Klingon and writing lead to the KLI's Klingon Shakespeare Restoration Project translating restoring Hamlet and Much Ado About Nothing into Klingon, and how his success in writing lead him to create Paper Golem press to "pay it forward" and provide an outlet for up-and-coming writers to find a voice and platform for writing genre-based works including short stories and novella-length books which often go overlooked by larger, more corporate publishing houses.

Lawrence also discussed current projects in the works within the KLI, and announced a new upcoming development in his career, breaking the news for the first time on the Warriors' Den on TrekRadio.net.

We were also proud to present a new recording by Lawrence Schoen, which he debuted on YouTube: the Klingon lullaby, Soft Targ (also known as Soft Kitty in Klingon). This epic song was inspired by CBS television show The Big Bang Theory and Lawrence recounted the tale of how the idea formed and the process of recording it. I would love to see Leonard or Howard sing the Klingon version of Soft Targ to Sheldon on an upcoming episode! Bill Prady and crew, Make it So!

I am very grateful to Lawrence for agreeing to participate in the interview and for making the experience so enjoyable for myself and our listeners. The interview has been well received, with positive feedback and requests for the links to the interview coming in from our station's IRC chat room as well as on Twitter.

Lawrence has agreed to return to the Warriors' Den and we definitely look forward to having him back on the air with us. The interview is now available for download and streaming in the On-Demand section of the TrekRadio.net website.

Visit www.LawrenceMSchoen.com for more information about his personal life and projects, his work with other authors, his critically acclaimed Buffalito novels and short stories including free samples in PDF format, and downloadable editions of DaHjaj Hol podcast, the daily dose of Klingon language. Lawrence can also be found on Google+ and on Twitter.
